Video: Manorville community holds drive-by parade for child, 6, who undergoes last chemo treatment

On June 7, National Cancer Survivor Day, the Manorville community organized a drive-by parade for a local 6-year-old boy who underwent his last day of therapy treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Nicholas Mauceri had been undergoing treatment for 3 1/2 years, said his father, Damien.

A parade was held in his honor with friends, family and co-workers, who passed the family’s house, honking their horns and waving.

He even got a visit from Spider-Man.

“The treatments have been really hard,” said mom Denise. They’ve included chemotherapy, spinal taps and bone marrow transfusions. “So every step of the way has been difficult. He handled it like a champ — smiling through it all and finding the good in it.”

The parade provided a great lift for the family, she said.

“It’s been the best day of our lives.”
