It’s Police Week, and to celebrate, the Suffolk County Police Department is giving students a look at police operations at its headquarters in Yaphank.
More than 400 students from 11 high schools on Monday and Tuesday had opportunity to view the workings of a mock crime scene, wear alcohol impairment simulation goggles and receive Narcan and CPR instruction. Students also saw mock car stops to learn what they should do when stopped by the police.
Crime scene, emergency service section and marine bureau divisions has displays for students, while the canine section, aviation section and instructors from emergency vehicle operations course presented demonstrations during the day. Various police vehicles, equipment and antique police cars were also on display.
Police Week will continue for 3,500 students from more than 50 elementary and middle school classes at police headquarters, located at 30 Yaphank Ave., between Wednesday and Friday.
