Construction crews have begun clearing trees on the property in front of the former AMF Shirley Lanes facing William Floyd Parkway to make way for a proposed 7-Eleven.

The site plan for the property is pending the town’s planning board approval.

The property’s owner, Nelin Realty, did not return a call seeking comment.

Councilman Dan Panico said the owner of the old bowling alley is being contacted to paint over graffiti on the west side of the building, and the developer proposing the 7-Eleven has offered to do it himself.

The nearest 7-Eleven locations are at 228 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, 1236 Montauk Highway in Mastic and 210 Mastic Beach Road in Mastic Beach.

Additionally, the current Dunkin’ Donuts location in Shirley near the proposed 7-Eleven on William Floyd Parkway will be relocating to the former Dairy Barn spot that has since been demolished at the town’s request.

Regarding the bowling alley building, Panico said on his Facebook page that that owner has “no definitive plans” for it, but that Panico suggested “a family type recreational spot would likely do well in the area.”
